For the impatient here is the low down: Hold the switch grande button, reload button, push in on the right thumb stick and down on the D-Pad for 2 seconds. Don’t have a Multitouch Table yet? Have one, but need something smaller for testing? Building a small portable multitouch pad will allow you to test software and experiment on a smaller scale while building your full table or when away from your multitouch screen. Have fun and make a MTmini! This uses Front Diffused Illumination, with normal ambient light (infrared not required or needed) and a normal off-the-shelf webcam (IR filter can still be in place).

-How’s it Work?-

For this to work, all you need is a room with (at least) some light. The results will be best when the room lighting is even (no bright lights shinning from one direction onto the multitouch pad).

When you place you fingers on the surface, shadows are created where your fingers are. The webcam sees these shadows and sends the image to the tracking software which tracks the shadows as they move on the surface.

It’s important to try different lighting setups and to configure the software in order to get the best results.

You can see your Twitter/Facebook feeds, enter your status and even your location. The events section lets you RSVP and add it directly to your Nokia N8′s calendar.

There’s a close integration with the phone contacts. A link in your contacts details opens the social application with their Facebook or Twitter information. It pulls in their profile photos too. You can send your friend a Twitter message, Facebook message, or email from their Facebook info. You can also access their Twitter/Facebook profile from the phonebook.

There’s a variety of entry points to the social application. Another example is a widget from the homescreen. The social application will come pre-installed on Symbian^3 devices like the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01, and E7 announced at Nokia World. There’s no comment on whether we’ll see these features on Symbian^1.
